A WSPA Investigation Convinced Commissioners at the International Whaling Commission's annual meeting to vote 'no' to including ten humpbacks in Greenland's whaling quota.
WSPA's undercover investigation revealed that 25% of whales killed in Greenland are sold commercially, resulting in significant profit and exploding the myth that their whaling quotas are purely subsistence based.

Taking the truth to the decision-makers
At the end of June WSPA presented IWC commissioners with compelling evidence providing them with the information necessary to ensure a 'no' vote on June 26th from a majority 36 of the 65 voting nations.
This sent a powerful message to Greenland. Its effect was summed up by BBC journalist Richard Black: 'In all my years at IWC I've never seen a report make such a difference to the direction of a meeting.'
WSPA's Claire Bass commented on the vote from the IWC meeting: 'This is fantastic news as fewer whales will be cruelly killed. WSPA's investigation has given the IWC the information it needed to see through the myths of Greenlandic whaling and make the right decision.'
Speaking on the importance of the vote, she added: 'This is a significant victory in a bigger campaign to end the slaughter of whales globally, and we will continue to work to end the cruelty of whaling. "
What the future holds

Our association since 1990, helping Polish children suffering from Mucopolysaccharidosis (MPS) and rare genetic diseases.
These diseases are caused by hereditary metabolic disorders - are missing a certain enzyme, which should break down complex sugars - mucopolysaccharides that accumulate in the tissue, destroying it.
Children are born healthy, and their disease is revealed only after a few years. Slowly, the disease causes uwstecznianie the physical, mental. diagnosis of this disease is tantamount to a death sentence. In 80% of cases, children do not live to see age.

Dear
research team working under my direction has recently developed a new method of treatment of Sanfilippo disease (mucopolysaccharidosis type III). So far, the disease was incurable and could not even slow the progress. Sanfilippo disease is caused by genetic defect that results in the inhibition of degradation of glycosaminoglycans in the cells.
premise developed by our method is to decrease the efficiency of synthesis of these compounds, which likely is the restoration of balance between synthesis and degradation of glycosaminoglycans.
Our studies using cellular models have demonstrated the effectiveness of the method in reducing the deposition of glycosaminoglycans in fibroblasts derived from diseased individuals. Pilot clinical studies have produced very encouraging results, as obtained statistically significant improvement all parameters of patients after one year of treatment, including improving the cognitive functioning of patients, which is particularly important in this disease, which mainly affects the central nervous system.
next stage of research should be a formal clinical trial. Unfortunately, the considerable cost of such trials (measured in millions of zlotys) does not allow us to complete it. Also, most pharmaceutical companies are not interested in funding such trials because of the small number of patients suffering from mucopolysaccharidosis type III.
Since However, this is a disease leading to death of untreated patients in their early teens, are determined to carry out such tests, so any financial support for clinical trials would be very valuable.
